“The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” (John 1:5) I have been especially reminded of this in the last few days. I have nothing to fear. Darkness cannot cover me. I love the promise that anyone who follows Jesus will never walk in darkness. God was a light to his worshippers centuries before God became incarnate in a human. David testified that God’s law was a light for his way (Psalm 119:105).
God has been light for his people for millennia. I need not fear darkness. The best way to eliminate darkness is to worship Christ. In so doing, we get to be a light for the world.
Yesterday I got out a writing project that I haven’t worked on in six years. It is incredible how differently I understand the gospel now than I did then. Christ seeks, saves, redeems, rescues, loves, forgives. Today I wrote and edited my work for nine hours. I started while it was still completely dark outside. I put my desk by the window in order to watch the sunrise. I tried to capture it for you though the pictures pale in comparison with reality.
God is faithful. We have light. Forever.
